1. What bikes & EQUIPMENT do you rent?
Currently we operate a rental fleet of well-serviced mountain bikes that are 2017 model Trek Marlin 7.

All our mountain bikes come with Rockshox front suspension forks, grippy tires suitable for off-road use and hydraulic disc brakes. These have easy rolling 27.5 inch or 29 inch wheels across a wide range of frame sizes.

The cost of your guided all-inclusive experience will already include the hire for use of Trek mountain bike, cycling helmet and gloves. We include trail snacks and souvenir water bottle for you to keep.

We offer BIKE HIRE with drop-off / pick-up around the Central Coast, or at the Ourimbah State Forest mountain bike park trail-head.
2. IS mountain biking in nature CONSIDERED fun, OR EXTREME?
Fun for anyone who can confidently ride a bike, with good enough physical fitness to enjoy the ride.

When experienced in a safe and supported environment...
Yes, mountain bike riding is always fun!

It's wonderful to be immersed in natural bush-land trails.

Our guides ensure that your experience matches your expectations and abilities. No matter whether you are taking on a flat fire trail or more technical single tracks, you will only ever go at your own pace.

The tour group travels at the comfortable pace of the least confident rider. We suggest a 3-metre gap between each rider to ensure adequate stopping zone. Just take your time... whether that's a rest break, or walking around a technical feature that you do not wish to ride. You are in control and responsible for your safe control of the bike. You will feel supported by your Tour Guide throughout the experience.

For those people concerned about interactions with wildlife... whether it be a bush turkey, wallaby or yes... snake - our advice is always avoid interacting with wildlife. If you do come across each other on the trails, pause & wait for the wildlife to clear the area. They will. They do not want to be in that vicinity as much as you do not want them there. That's nature!

Mountain bike riding in nature is a great way to traverse the outdoors!

If you are looking for your extreme mountain bike experience... we offer those too, just ask us.

3. What if MY RENTAL mountain bike breaks down or gets a flat tyre?
Each mountain bike is serviced before every hire, so you can rely on well-maintained bikes for your peace of mind.

If you are on a tour, your guide will assist. That's one of the great benefits of riding with a  guide!

If you are renting a mountain bike, we loan you a bike repair toolkit including multi-tool, tyre lever, hand pump and tyre inner tube. Any further issues, call us directly.

Central Coast Mountain Bike Tour guides carry all necessary tools and spares to fix most common problems. Should you suffer a flat tyre or other wear & tear related mechanical problem we will first repair the bike while on the trail (if possible) or provide a replacement bike (if available).

If the bike is lost, stolen or damaged because of an accident while it is in your care - you are required to pay our fee for replacement costs of the damaged part/s or the entire bike value up to $1000 (for front suspension models, or up to the value of $5000 for dual suspension models).

This does not include wear and tear issues which remain our responsibility.
4. What if I am unsure of my current MOUNTAIN BIKE skills or fitness level?
We offer tours and trails for all skill and fitness levels.
As the expression goes: "it's just like riding a bike".

If you know how to ride a bike, but are not yet confident as a mountain bike rider, then our Mountain to Surf - 2 hr - Easy Trail Ride is suitable.

For experienced mountain bike riders seeking a guided challenge, then we suggest that you join our Explore Ourimbah Forest - 4 hr - Traverse & Bike Park Adventure.

Trails range from flat fire trails to single track trails offering a variety of technical challenges.

Remember - you choose to ride what feels comfortable.

If you want to improve your mountain bike skills we can provide tailored skills clinics run by our MTBA accredited skills coaches.

We guarantee that you will enjoy an appropriate and accessible experience of mountain biking in a real Australian bush setting, regardless of your fitness and experience levels.
5. Do I need to bring my own food & WATER for the tour?
You must maintain your nutrition throughout physical activity.
We always provide you a selection of trail snacks throughout your bike tour and you will be given a souvenir water bottle (filled with tap water) for you to keep.

For bike hire or shuttle riders these water bottles can be purchased for $15 each.

If you have any specific dietary requirements then it will be necessary for you to bring your own food.

For guided tours that exceed 3 hours, we will arrange a locally sourced lunch for each rider. This will need to be arranged prior to the tour day.

Please note that there are no shops in the State Forest or National Parks locations.
Being prepared is important.  Let's discuss this - Contact Us
6. Do you provide personal injury or accident cover for these activities?
NO. We do not provide you with personal injury or accident cover. Please remember you are responsible for your own physical safety and ride control.

Click the Terms and Conditions page to see our Agreements & Waiver of Liability forms.

Mountain Bike Australia (MTBA) is the peak body for mountain biking in Australia. We encourage all mountain bikers to join MTBA membership for insurance options.

The best way to stay safe is to only ride trails and roll over obstacles that you feel confident with. Always follow the instructions and directions of the guide. However, even with all care and the best planning - accidents do happen.

Central Coast Mountain Bike Tours maintains necessary Public Liability Cover and Workers Compensation Cover to operate a fully insured and permitted mountain bike tour business in the NSW State Forest and National Park locations. Also, our vehicles have comprehensive business insurance cover.

7. Will I encounter any snakes or dangerous wildlife?
Our mountain bike tours take you into natural environments, like wildlife reserves and national parks. Our native flora and fauna are allowed to live there free from human intervention.

This wildness is what makes these areas so beautiful and enjoyable, but also means that people encounter animals from time to time. You may encounter monitor lizards, snakes, wallabies, kangaroos, spiders, birds and our personal favourite... the Australian bush turkey!

When you take a tour with us you can rest assured that our accredited and experienced guide will give you a clear instruction on how best to act in case of an encounter. Don't panic, the bush is quite safe if you act sensibly.

People walk and ride these environments regularly and the animals you encounter will generally simply move off if you stop and remain calm once you notice an animal.

9. is it safe for me to mountain bike?
  • We always suggest that you ride to your own ability!
  • It is definitely possible for you to be safe while you mountain bike ride.
  • Take it easy and follow instructions
  • If you are concerned at any time... dismount your bike to walk around the obstacle.

We encourage safety in your riding and those around you. Have fun and do not be silly in your behaviour. We suggest a 2 - 3 metre space between each rider.

Having said that...
RECREATIONAL ACTIVITIES (INCLUDING MOUNTAIN BIKING) INVOLVE A SIGNIFICANT RISK OF PHYSICAL HARM OR PERSONAL INJURY INCLUDING PERMANENT DISABILITY AND/OR DEATH TO PARTICIPANTS. ANY SUCH INJURY MAY RESULT NOT ONLY FROM YOUR ACTIONS BUT FROM THE ACTION, OMISSION OR NEGLIGENCE OF OTHERS;

Our rental mountain bikes and equipment (such as cycling helmets) are not suitable for extreme downhill mountain biking. We always suggest you only ride with full-face helmet for a downhill course.
